Start your adventure in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city. Casablanca has a mix of modern life with historical and cultural heritage. Your first stop will be the Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in Morocco and the second largest in Africa (It’s enormous, trust me). This fantastic structure sits right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, with intricate mosaics, wood carvings, marble pillars, and floors. The mosque in Morocco is one of the few that allow non-Muslims to enter.
Next, we head to Rabat, Morocco’s political and administrative capital. Rabat has a peaceful ambiance with a balance of old and modern. You will visit the Kasbah of the Udayas, a fortress with fantastic panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, and the Hassan Tower, an incomplete minaret that has become one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Close by, you’ll explore Chellah, an ancient Roman and medieval necropolis with tranquil gardens. It is an excellent opportunity for photography and learning about its historical significance.
Lastly, we will stroll through the Rabat Medina, which offers a glimpse into local life through traditional markets and handicrafts. We then drive to Fez for the night, where you can rest at a comfortable Riad (Traditional Moroccan house with a courtyard in the middle) and prepare for the next day’s journey.
After breakfast, we will start with a visit to Meknes and the surroundings, one of Morocco’s less famous imperial cities. You will see Bab Mansour, a grand gateway famous for its intricate designs. You will explore the Heri es-Souani, the royal stables, and granaries built during Sultan Moulay Ismail’s reign. It’s a fascinating structure built to store grain and house horses (over 12,000 horses), showcasing the Sultan’s great power at that time.
Next, we head to Moulay Idriss Zerhoun; this spiritual town is home to the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss I, the founder of Morocco’s first Islamic dynasty. The city is a place of pilgrimage for many Moroccans. It is perched beautifully on a hilltop with narrow streets and white buildings.
In the afternoon, we arrive at Volubilis, Morocco’s best-preserved Roman ruins and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This archaeological site has intricate mosaics, remnants of grand homes, and bathhouses. Walking through Volubilis gives a good glimpse into Morocco’s Roman past. It is a unique historical stop on your 7-day Morocco tour.
Today, we explore Fez, Morocco’s cultural capital and one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited cities. We start with Borj Nord, a 16th-century fortress with sweeping city views. Inside, the museum showcases a unique collection of arms and armor.
We then visit Dar el Makhzen (Royal Palace). While the palace isn’t open to the public, its grand brass doors and majestic architecture are a sight to behold. It’s another great opportunity to take some nice photos. Then, we head to Bab Boujloud (the Blue Gate), the entrance to the Fez Medina (not the only but the most known), the largest car-free urban area in the world.
Walking through the narrow alleyways, you’ll discover the Chouara Tannery, where leather goods are made using centuries-old methods. Another highlight is the Al-Qarawiyyin University, the oldest continuously operating university in the world. But before the day ends, we’ll visit the Marinid Tombs, nestled on a hill overlooking Fez. It’s the perfect spot for sunset photos. You can read more about Fez and the best places to visit on our blog.
Your desert journey starts today as we pass through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is Ifrane city, known as “Little Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture (and the cold snowy winters, too). The clean streets, towering cedar trees, and mild climate make it a favorite retreat for locals and travelers. You might even spot the Barbary Macaques in the forest near Cedre Gouraud, one of the oldest cedar trees in the region.
Continuing through the changing landscapes, we’ll pass through Midelt and head toward the desert town of Merzouga, where your Sahara Desert adventure begins. Arriving at a dromedary caravan, you will ride into the dunes just before sunset for one of the most incredible sunsets in the world. You will stay overnight in a traditional desert camp, enjoying Moroccan food, music, a campfire, and the star-filled sky.
The day starts with an early sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes—an astonishing moment you’ll remember forever. After breakfast, we will visit Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music, a spiritual form of music passed down through generations of enslaved Africans.
Later, we go to the stunning Todra Gorge with its towering cliffs and continue to the Dades Valley, famous for its rugged beauty. Along the way, you’ll pass historical Kasbahs, offering a glimpse into the history of Southern Morocco.
After spending time in the desert, we go to the dramatic landscapes of Todra Gorge. The steep, red rock walls create a dramatic backdrop, and the gorge is famous among rock climbers and hikers. As we continue through the Dades Valley, known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, you’ll encounter ancient fortresses and oases surrounded by palm groves.
We will spend a cozy night in Ouarzazate and rest for our last day on this fantastic tour from Casablanca to Marrakech.
On your final day, we head back to Marrakech, passing through the Atlas Mountains. We’ll stop at several Berber villages and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery along the way. Arriving in Marrakech, you’ll have time to explore the vibrant Jemaa el-Fna square, the Koutoubia Mosque, and the lively souks.
If you wish to extend your stay, we can organize trips to Essaouira or the High Atlas Mountains.
If you have more time, consider adding a day trip to Chefchaouen or Akchour Waterfalls from Fez. Alternatively, you can extend your stay in Marrakech by visiting Essaouira on the coast.
