4 Days Casablanca to Chefchaouen Private Tour: Through Rabat, Fez, Volubilis & Meknes

Day 1: Explore Casablanca & Rabat

Start with a guided visit to the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world. From there, continue to Rabat to walk the 12th‑century Kasbah of the Udayas, see the Hassan Tower, and explore the Roman and medieval ruins at Chellah. In the evening, drive to Fez for an overnight in a traditional riad.

Day 2: Visit Meknes, Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, and Volubilis

After breakfast, head to Meknes to see the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the vast Heri es‑Souani granaries and stables. Then climb to the holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, where the streets are calm and whitewashed. The afternoon is spent at Volubilis, a UNESCO Roman site with intact mosaics and columns set against open hills. Return to your Fez riad for the night.

Day 3: Explore the Highlights of Fez

Begin with a panoramic view from the 16th‑century Borj Nord fortress before admiring the brass doors of the Royal Palace. Enter the old medina through Bab Boujloud (the Blue Gate) and wind through its souks, past the Chouara Tannery and historic madrasas. End the day at the Marinid Tombs on a hill above the city – the sunset view over Fez is unforgettable.

Day 4: Chefchaouen – The Blue City

You’ll leave Fez early and drive into the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen’s medina is small, walkable, and painted in layers of blue. The shopkeepers are relaxed, the pace is slow, and the mountain light makes every alley photogenic. A natural waterfall feeds the city with fresh water, and you’ll have plenty of time to wander, shop, and soak up the stillness.

Optional Extension – Akchour Valley

If you add an extra night in Chefchaouen, we’ll take you to Akchour Valley the following day for a hike through the canyon to the waterfalls. The round trip takes about two hours, the path is rocky in places, and the natural pools are cold but refreshing. It’s a perfect counterpoint to the blue medina.

End your tour with a drop‑off in Fez, or continue with the optional Akchour extension. Either way, this four‑day route delivers a compact, rich slice of northern Morocco.

• Hassan II Mosque dress code (Day 1) – Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter. Carry a light scarf for extra coverage; it’s also useful for the sun in Rabat later in the day.
• Volubilis sun (Day 2) – The Roman ruins are open‑air with almost no shade. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 50) are essential, even in spring or autumn.
• Fes medina footwear (Day 3) – You’ll walk several kilometres through uneven cobbled alleys. Closed‑toe shoes with grip make a genuine difference.
• Fes tannery smell – The Chouara Tannery is fascinating, but the ammonia used to soften hides is strong. A sprig of fresh mint (usually handed out at the entrance) held under your nose helps. Morning visits are slightly less pungent.
• Cash for small towns (Days 2‑3) – Meknes, Moulay Idriss, and Volubilis have fewer ATMs than the big cities. Withdraw enough cash in Casablanca or Fez for tips, snacks, and small purchases.
• Chefchaouen mountain air (Day 4) – The Rif Mountains are cooler than the imperial cities, and rain is more common. Pack a light fleece or waterproof jacket, even if the forecast looks clear.
• Chefchaouen photography – The blue streets photograph best in the early morning (before 9 AM) when the light is soft and the medina is empty. For panoramic views over the blue rooftops, walk up to the Spanish Mosque at sunset, it’s free and takes about 20 minutes from the main square.
• Akchour extension – If you choose the optional extra night in Chefchaouen, the hike to Akchour Waterfalls takes about 2 hours round‑trip. Wear sturdy sandals or light hiking shoes; the path is rocky in places. A swim in the natural pools is refreshing, but the water is cold year‑round.
• Dietary needs – Tell us in advance if you’re vegetarian, vegan, or have food allergies. Most stops can accommodate, but some smaller towns need a little notice.
